ECAP deadline is August 15

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is issuing up to $10 billion in payments through the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP) for the 2024 crop year. The payments are part of the American Relief Act and are designed to help offset higher inputs and falling commodity prices.

Cash rental agreements

While the current 2025 agricultural crop season is still in full swing; farmers and landowners are thinking about renewing or making new rental agreements. In Ohio, about 39% of farmland is leased or rented. About 28% of all Ohio farmers rent exclusively and own no farmland themselves. About 13 Midwestern universities have developed a program called AgLease 101 offering descriptions and advantages and disadvantage to landowners and renters (tenants) of various rental arrangements.

Alphabet soup: Replacing BMI with BRI

Alphabet soup is used as a metaphor to indicate an excess of abbreviations or acronyms. The term is believed to go as far back as the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration and the implementation of the New Deal. Many programs were given acronyms. The federal government of today is still ripe with acronyms for many agencies such as the FDA, FCC, FDIC, CDC, EPA, HHS, and CMS.
