Dysert's double-double not enough

By Andrew Korba

WESTERVILLE - Sophomore Kara Dysert posted her first double-double of the season and the sixth of her career, but it was not enough as the Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell to Otterbein 79-72 Saturday afternoon at the Rike Center.

The loss drops Ohio Northern to 10-7 overall and 5-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Otterbein improves to 7-10, 4-6.

Dysert finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Freshman Katie Mengos scored a season-high 12 points and also added four assists.

Junior Jeanne Bockey added 17 points of 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from 3-point range.

The Cardinals never trailed in the first half and took a 44-34 lead into halftime.

Northern came out of the locker room and went on an 11-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 45-44 with 16:28 remaining. Baskets by sophomore Brittany Bogart, Dysert and Bockey allowed Northern to take their first lead of the game.

A layup by Bockey gave the Polar Bears a 47-44 lead, their largest of the game, with 16:12 left in the game.

Otterbein would respond with a 13-2 run to retake a 56-49 lead with 11:53 remaining.

The Polar Bears cut the Otterbein lead to two points three times in the last seven minutes but were never able to tie the game up.

Otterbein would shoot 6-of-9 free throws in the final two minutes to hold their lead and grab the victory.

Northern finished 24-of-53 (45.3 percent) from the field and shot a season best 18-of-19 (94.7 percent) from the free throw line. The Cardinals shot 33-of-67 (49.3 percent) from the field and 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) from the free throw line.

The Cardinals had a 36 to 32 advantage on the boards.

Ohio Northern will be in action again on Wednesday when they host Capital. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
