WAYNESFIELD - Ada didn't have to wait long to wash the bad taste from its mouth one night after a loss at LCC, and unfortunate host Waynesfield happened to be the team they took their frustrations out on.
The Bulldogs led by 37 at one point Saturday night and crushed the Tigers 64-39 in a non-league mismatch before a sparse crowd lessened by fog.
The win upped the Bulldog record to 4-6 overall while the Tigers fell to 2-9.
Hard-driving Konnor Baker scored 11 of his game-high 28 points in the first period as Ada sprinted to a 22-10 lead. The Bulldogs jumped in front 10-2 and never looked back behind an aggressive man defense and opportunistic fast break scoring.
"We really picked up our man-to-man defensive intensity," said Bulldog coach Chris Sautter of the fast start. "Our scouts told us that Waynesfield didn't get back on defense in transition, so pushing the ball upcourt was one of our focuses.
"We have to score out of transition and off rebounds to be effective," he continued. "If you want to score in transition you have to pressure the ball and rebound. I thought we did a pretty nice job on the boards."
Ty Jolliff started the offensive onslaught in the second stanza with a basket. Alex Weber, who netted six first period points, canned a driving banker. His brother Austin sped downcourt for a coast-to-coast layup and a 28-10 bulge.
Baker then took over. He knocked in a tough up-and-under leaner from 10 feet, then scored a conventional three-point play with a left-handed finish off glass.
Baker banked in another shot and tallied a fast break layup as the lead ballooned to 37-14 with a minute to go on his 20th point. Zack Gibson capped a dominating first half with a short baseline jumper just before the buzzer to make it 39-17 at intermission.
To start half two, Baker drove the baseline and angled in a tough bank shot. Alex Weber picked off a pass and converted a layup to ignite a 13-0 spurt. He then fed his brother Austin with a nice diagonal bounce pass on the fast break for an easy finish.
Austin then tallied another layin off transition. Two Baker free throws and a layup off another good Alex Weber fast break dish built the margin to 34. Baker then tallied two foul shots to triple the Tigers total, 54-18.
W-G finally got its only basket of the third stanza to end a six-minute scoreless drought.
Jolliff's trey gave Ada their biggest lead at 57-20 to start the final quarter. Eli Roberson got into the scorebook with a 13-foot left side banker.
Erik Grimslid provided the final highlight of the night. After getting a loose ball, he tossed a fine lead pass from his prone position in the lane to Gibson for a layup and the final Ada score.
Keeping many of their starters in, the hosts outscored the 'Dog reserves 19-7 down the stretch to make the final score look closer than the game truly was.
"Alex played well (10 points and several assists), and Austin did a nice job too," Sautter noted. "He runs the floor hard and gets his hand on a lot of balls. Ty hit a couple three's and Erik did a nice job too.
"Konnor was 11-11 at the foul line this weekend," he added. "We made some adjustments and it is a positive thing going into the second half of the season."

JV: Ada 55, Waynesfield 45.
The Bulldog reserves improved to 4-6 with a 10-point win. Cole Simon led Ada with 14 points and Jordan Mayes added 13.
Ada (1-2 NWC) hosts league foe Bluffton (3-9, 1-2 NWC) Friday evening. The Pirates swamped visiting Allen East 58-22 last weekend to end a three-game losing skid and win their first league game.
"They've got some length and like to play a 3-2 zone, so that could pose some problems for us due to their size and long arms," Sautter warned. "This win tonight should give us some confidence.
"Bluffton is so disciplined and patient," continued. "They won't beat themselves. We have to be patient and smart."
Tip-off for the JV game is at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs (2-3 on the road and at home) then entertain Arlington (6-4) in a non-conference makeup game Saturday night.
At the halfway point of the season, the 'Dogs are averaging 42.4 points per game while allowing 49.9 ppg. The 64 points at Waynesfield was their highest output of the campaign, surpassing the 59 tallied in an overtime win over AE. The 25-point margin of victory was also the largest of the season.
