NEW CONCORD - Sophomore Kara Dysert had a season-high 10 rebounds and added seven points, but it was not enough as the Ohio Nothern women's basketball team fell 59-51 at Muskingum Wednesday night at the Recreation Center.
The Polar Bears fall to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the OAC, while the Muskies improve to 5-4, 1-3.
Junior Jeanne Bockey was the only Ohio Northern player in double-figures with 15 points. She also had seven rebounds.
The Muskies would open the second half on an 11-3 run to take a 38-24 lead with 13:54 remaining.
Northern would respond with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 40-31 on a pair of Dysert free throws with 10:23 left.
Muskingum would then use a 13-5 run to push its lead to 53-36 with 3:35 remaining.
The Bears would come back with a 11-0 run to cut the lead to 53-47 with 1:50 to go in the game. Baskets by Dysert, Bockey, and freshman Megan Porter helped Northern get back into the game.
The Muskies would respond with a 6-0 run to put the game away.
Northern held a 42-30 advantage in rebounding but turned the ball over 29 times.
The Polar Bears were 18 of 56 for 32.1 percent from the field, while Muskingum was 21 of 52 for 40.4 percent.
Northern would shoot 9 of 11 for 81.8 percent from the free throw line and Muskingum finished 14 of 20 for 70 percent from the charity stripe.
Hannah Nelson led Muskingum with 18 points. Carissa Bosch added 16 points and Suzanne Nichols had 10 points. Nichols also has nine assists to lead the Muskies.
Ohio Northern will be in action again on Saturday when they host Otterbein. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the ONU Sports Center.
