| 10/3/2009 7:39:00 PM | Email this article Print this article | NWCC matchup sees Fairbanks over USV The USV Rams hosted the 2008 NWCC football champion Fairbanks Friday night and succumbed to the Panthers 28-18. The Rams now stand at 4-2 overall.
Fairbanks got on the board first, with a ten yard run by Max Burnside. USV answered six minutes later with a 62-yard bomb from quarterback Rhys Rose to Colby Salyer. Justin Beale's kick attempt was blocked.
Burnside was the carrier who scored in the second as well, running in from eight yards out. In USV's next drive, Rose connected with Steven LaRue for a 10-yard touchdown reception. The Rams attemped a two-point conversion but couldn't seal the deal.
In the third quarter, Tyler Smith ran in from the seven to score again for the Panthers. It was the only score in the third.
USV scored early in the fourth, with a quarterback keeper, as Rose ran eight yards for the score. Another failed two-point conversion kept the score at 18. Fairbanks then made the final tally as Smith scored a second touchdown from five yards out.

The Rams will be on the road Friday as they travel to Waynesfield-Goshen, a fellow NWCC school.
