Ada Herald Writer

CRIDERSVILLE - After jumping to a 5-0 lead, Ada could not hold on and lost 14-10 in a non-league baseball game at Perry Saturday afternoon.

Ada dropped to 2-7 overall with its fourth loss in a row.

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the top of the first inning but came unraveled in the bottom of the second.

Perry (7-7) rallied with an eight-run second frame on just two hits. They drew four straight walks to start the inning, and later took advnatge of two Bulldog errors to lead 9-6.

Ada then scrapped back to lead 10-9 with two runs in each of the third and fourth innings.

But in the bottom of the fifth, Perry plated five runs to re-take the lead for good. The Commodores then shut out Ada over its final three at bats to post the victory.

"Being up 7-1, I was disappointed that we couldn't hold onto that lead any longer than we did," said Ada coach Ben Thaxton.

Bulldog Matt Flower smacked a two-run double and Cody Mattson hit a triple as Ada out-hit Perry 8-5.

Matt Gray knocked out three singles and scored twice for the Bulldogs. Mattson added a single and one run batted in to his triple. Speedy Jordan Grace contributed two RBI on a single, scored twice and stole three bases.

"Drew Crabtree pitched really well in relief," Thaxton noted. "He's been a real bright spot this season. Cody Matton and Matt Gray had outstanding games at the plate. Freshmen Gray and Crabtree are starting to come into their own as players."
