Ada softball team loses at Ridgemont

By Cort Reynolds
Ada Herald Writer

RIDGEWAY - The Ada varsity girls softball team dropped its first game of the young season Tuesday at county foe Ridgemont, 13-2.

Ada scored once in the top of the first inning to take a short-lived lead. Amanda Fullom singled to score Lindsay Simmons, who had reached on a fielder's choice.

Yet Ridgemont came right back in the bottom of the first with four runs on three hits. The Lady Gophers poured it on in the second inning with six more runs on three hits, chasing starting hurler Fullom.

They put another three runs on the board in the third via two more hits.

Ada (1-1) tallied its other run in the fourth. Ashlie Kindle reached on an error and scored on an RBI groundout by Ashley Wagner.

But the Lady Bulldogs did not score in the top of the fifth and the game was stopped due to the 10-run rule.

"It is back to fundamentals for Ada," said Lady Bulldog coach Deb Miller. "There were several mental errors tonight and we were not ready to play.

"Ridgemont took advantage of every opportunity with several key hits and excellent base running. They did a great job putting pressure on us immediately."

Lindsay Simmons batted 2-for-3 with a run to pace the purple and gold offense. Fullom contributed an RBI hit.

Bulldogs Sam Ring and Tiffanie Jolliff each added a single.

Ada freshman standout hurler Kindle struck out seven in three innings of relief work.

Gopher pitcher Morgan Mercer earned the win by scattering four hits over four innings. She allowed just one earned run.
