Golden Gophers no match for Lady Rams

By Virginia Bandy
Ada Herald Editor

Within 25 seconds of the first quarter start, Lady Ram Katie Hicks put in her first basket, then was assisted in another quick score after Ridgemont got the ball taken away from them. USV led early in the first and kept up the pace throughout the contest.

Held to single digit scoring in every quarter, the Lady Golden Gophers struggled with turnovers and less than perfect shooting. The Lady Rams weren't dropping every ball either and had 18 turnovers. Their shooting percentage was only 35, with 23-66 successful shots.

It was a low scoring second quarter for both teams, and all of the Rams' points were made in the last minute of the quarter.

USV dominated the third, scoring 22 points to Ridgemont's four. Frustrations started to show in the fourth, with both teams being aggressive in attempting to steal the ball. Several heated exchanges were heard from the players as the game became a grudge match.

Katie Hicks netted the most baskets for the Lady Rams with 15. She also led with 7 rebounds. Whitney Carroll scored 10 points, Rachel Jeffers earned 8 and Morgan Hunsicker added 6. Other top rebounders were Jeffers and Hunsicker with 6 each and Carroll with 5. Three point goals were made by Carroll (2), Hicks (1) and Mikayla Coburn (1).

The bulk of the Gopher points came from junior Paige Guenther, with 15. Malana Ledley earned six and Samantha Smith added two. No other players scored points for the team, and no three-pointers were landed.
