ADA- The Ada Diamonds have been a pillar in our community for as long as many of it's volunteers remember. Their mission is to bring the game of baseball to children. They are lead by Joni Goodman and a team of volunteers. As Goodman explained the baseball program, it was evident that her work is fueled by her commitment and passion. She is currently organizing everything on her own, however she would LOVE to develop an Ada Diamonds Board to help her support the kids.
Goodman shared how the Ada Diamonds impacted her life when she joined a team in 5th grade. She was a new student and being a part of that new team made the transition much easier for her. In a time when kids are faced with so many things - bullying, peer pressure, childhood obesity - she feels that playing this all American sport really gives kids what they need most...a sense of belonging and accomplishment.
The Ada Diamonds needs the community's support. If you would like to volunteer in any way, board member, coaching, phone calls, concession stand, please contact Goodman at 419-516-7315 or come to the signup.
She says "all volunteers are welcome, needed, and appreciated...we will find an area that suits your ability and the players."
If you have any baseball gear you no longer need please consider donating it to the Ada Diamonds. Bring it to the signup and you will receive a receipt of your donation to use for tax purposes. They need items such as gently used balls, bats, or cleats.
Sign-up will be held Monday, Feb. 25, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ada War Memorial Park. Boys and girls Kindergarden through age 13 are invited. The signup fee is $35, which covers team shirts which the kids can keep, end of season pizza parties, umpire fees, game balls, and league fees.
