COLUMBUS - One Ada individual and a Bulldog relay qualified for the Ohio finals at the Div. III state track and field competition in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at Columbus this weekend.
Ada junior Matthew Wilcox finished seventh in the 16-man, 400 meter preliminary to make it to the nine-runner finals with a time of 50.5. Matt Tobin of Sherwood Fairview posted the top qualifying time of 48.99.
On Saturday morning, Wilcox finished ninth in the 400 meter finals with a time of 51.0. Tobin took first in 47.93.
The Bulldog 4 x 200 relay foursome also made it to the finals Saturday with a fifth-place finish in the prelims Friday. Russell Gray, Wilcox, Kellen Decker and Micah Roberson finished in a time of 1:31.009.
LCC won the finals with a time of 1:29.49 on Saturday. The Ada quartet came in seventh at 1:31.01.
Junior Brittney Archer competed in the 100 and 200 meter dash preliminary heats Friday, but did not qualify for the finals.
Archer finished 15th of 16 in the 100 meters with a time of 12.97. She also took 12th in the 200 in 26.31. A top nine finish would have advanced her to the finals Saturday.
Bulldog junior Danny Klingler took fourth in the 10-man 100 meter wheelchair finals in 19.65. Klingler also finished fourth in the 400 meter wheelchair race with a time of 1:20.79.
Columbus Academy won the boys team title with 49 points to edge out LCC with 43. Ada tallied two points with the 4 x 200 relay.
Versailles nipped Columbus Academy 28-24 to take the girls Div. crown.
