CRIDERSVILLE - Host Perry scored four runs in the first frame and four more in the fifth to defeat Ada 9-3 in a non-league softball game Wednesday evening.

Hard-throwing Commodore hurler Abbie Patton struck out 15 Lady Bulldogs and scattered seven hits to post the win.

The loss dropped the Ada record to 1-2, while Perry improved to 3-1.

Bulldog senior outfielder Trista Douce smacked a two-run double in the sixth inning to lead the Ada offense. "That was a big hit," said Bulldog mentor Ken Jochims.

Shortstop Ashley Sumner scored the first Ada run when she singled, stole second and third, and came home on a wild throw.

Sumner, Alexis Gonzaga, Sam Wildman, Quinn High, Mackenzie Wills and Cozy Brodeur each added a single for the Bulldogs.

Imani Watson hit a two-run triple for the victors. Teammate Kaylee Petway added a triple, double and one RBI. Haley King added a pair of singles for the Commodores.

Perry only out-hit Ada by one, but took advantage of nine costly Bulldog errors.

Four of the first five Commodore batters reached via error in the bottom of the first, followed by the Petway triple to build a big early lead.

"We got too far behind against a pitcher like Patton, and then you start to press," said Jochims. "Patton throws hard. But our pitching was good enough again."

Sumner struck out five Commodores in four innings of solid relief following starter Alexis Amburgey. None of the Perry runs were earned.

Ada returns home to host local non-league rival Cory-Rawson Thursday at 5 p.m. "That's the nice thing about baseball and softball, you get to come back the next day and play again," said Jochims.
