ADA - Fort Jennings scored nine runs in the fourth inning to break open a close game and win a 17-7 slugfest over host Ada in a non-league baseball game Wednesday evening.
The loss dropped the Bulldog record to 2-15.
The visitors took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Alex Vetter ignited the inning for FJ with a single. Kurt Warnecke doubled in a run, and later scored on an RBI double by Bankey.
Ada quickly tied it with a two-run inning of their own in the home half of the first. Seniors Brenden Szippl and Mason Acheson each smacked run-scoring singles to knot the score, 2-2.
FJ jumped ahead with five runs in the top of the second, but again the Bulldogs matched them in the bottom of the frame with five runs of their own in the see-saw battle.
Ada scored on a wild pitch, another RBI single by Szippl, a wild pitch, and a two-run double by Connor English to produce a 7-7 tie.
FJ added a tiebreaking run in the third, then put the game away by piling on nine more runs in the fourth frame. An error scored Warnecke to open the floodgates.
The Musketeers held the Bulldogs scoreless over the final three innings to
post the run-rule shortened victory.
Ada senior Gabe Sutton batted 2-2.
Bulldog southpaw Steven Gray held Fort Jennings hitless over two innings,
allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two.
Dylan Van Loo earned pitching the win for Fort Jennings despite allowing
seven runs over 1 1/3 innings. Van Loo struck out none, walked three and gave up six hits.
The visitors out-hit Ada, 11-8. The Bulldogs committed eight errors while FJ committed no miscues.
