AKRON - Senior Mackenzie Hoffman won two events to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team into first place after the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships Thursday at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.

The Polar Bears have 215 points through five of the championships's 20 events.

John Carroll is second with 198 points, Mount Union is third with 185 points and new OAC member Transylvania (Ky.) is fourth with 118 points.

ONU is looking for its fifth consecutive OAC Championships crown.

Hoffman won the 500 free title in 5:14.41 and joined freshman Lindsey Inkrott, junior Jennifer Hartsel and junior Lindsey Rayhill combined to win the 400 medley relay in an OAC record 3:54.91.

Rayhill and Inkrott also earned All-OAC honors in individual events.

Rayhill was second in the 200 I.M. in 2:09.44 and Inkrott was second in the 50 free in :24.57.

Sophomore Ashley Zoeller also earned All-Conference honors with a second place finish in the 500 free in 5:17.10.

The top three individuals and the top two relay teams in each event earn All-OAC kudos.

Day 2 of the OAC Championships will get underway on Friday with the third and final day on Saturday.
