WAPAKONETA - Hardin Northern's softball team gave a valiant effort Friday in the Division IV district finals at Wapakoneta only to come up short of Marion Local 9-8.

The Polar Bears (16-10) were down 6-1 after one inning and trailed 8-3 after three innings. Hardin Northern pulled within 8-5 in the top of the sixth only to see the Flyers score a run in the bottom of the sixth.

The run was big as the Polar Bears scored three times in the top of the seventh inning for the final score.

Addy Bame took the loss for the Polar Bears.

Michaela Curtis and Molly Wilson both had two singles for Hardin Northern, while Bame had a single and double. London Crist had two singles and an RBI and Brooklyn Watts had a double and two RBI.

Defense hurt both teams Friday as the Polar Bears were charged with seven errors and the Flyers (12-13) committed six errors.
