PAULDING - Kellen Decker ran for 221 yards on 11 carries in the first half as Ada rolled to a 54-14 win over Paulding in Northwest Conference action at Keysor Field Friday night.

The Bulldogs stay atop the Northwest Conference standings with the win, moving to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the league. Paulding drops to 0-6 in all games and 0-4 in the league.

It didn't take long for Ada to dent the scoreboard. The purple and gold put together a seven play, 67-yard drive that culminated on a seven yard touchdown run by Mason Acheson with 8:36 left in the opening stanza.

Micah Roberson ran in the two-point conversion as Ada went on top 8-0.

Paulding would answer on the ensuing possession. The Panthers put together a five-play, 56-yard drive to get within 8-6 at the 7:15 mark. Quarterback Julian Salinas connected with receiver Javier Gonzales as the Panthers pulled within two points.

The Panther defense then stepped up, getting its second interception of the night as Devan Gamble picked off an Acheson pass at the Paulding 40 yard line.

Momentum would then switch on the next play. On the Panthers first play following the interception, Salinas faked the handoff to running back Logan Doster and broke away from the Bulldog defense for what appeared to be a potential touchdown scamper to give the Panthers the lead.

However, the play was blown dead by an inadvertent whistle as the officials and the Bulldogs were fooled. Due to the whistle, Paulding was given possession back at the original line of scrimmage but the called-back score appeared to deflate the Panthers.

The hosts turned the ball over on downs three plays later and Ada took advantage quickly. Acheson found Matt Wilcox on a 22-yard score on the Bulldogs' fourth play of the drive as the visitors took a 16-6 lead.

"I thought our kids played extremely hard tonight," commented Paulding head coach Chris Etzler. "We did a lot of positive things and we showed that we were capable of making plays."

Ada widened the margin to 24-6 early in the second stanza when Decker scampered 69 yards for a score. The purple and gold continued to take control, scoring on a 39-yard run by Decker in grabbing a 32-6 advantage.

After an Acheson four yard pass to Roberson made it 38-6, Salinas connected with Lance Foor for a 57-yard scoring strike as Paulding got within 38-14.

The Bulldogs, though, then sealed the contest late in the second period. Decker rumbled 68 yards for a touchdown run as Ada took a commanding 46-14 advantage at the intermission.

Acheson then finished the scoring with a 68-yard touchdown toss to Roberson late in the third quarter. Luke Long-Green followed by running in the two-point conversion for the 54-14 lead.

Salinas finished the night 19 of 36 through the air for 235 yards. Gonzales recorded eight receptions for 87 yards while Foor had six catches for 129 yards.

Acheson completed 16 of 30 passes for 301 yards with Roberson posting eight catches for 108 yards.

Paulding will host Allen East on Homecoming Night at Keysor Field next week while Ada welcomes in Crestview in league action.
