Bulldog boys 2nd at district meet

FINDLAY - The Ada boys track and field team finished a very strong second at the Div. II, district 1 meet at Liberty-Benton this past week on the strength of many fine individual and relay showings.
Columbus Grove took first in the 11-team boys district 1 team standings with 136.5 points, followed by Ada with 102. Waynesfield took third (95.5) while Allen East was ninth (27) and USV 10th (25.5), just ahead of county foe Ridgemont.
The Lady Bulldogs came in eighth in the 18-team girls district meet, which was won by Van Buren with 110 points. Grove was second (80.5), AE took sixth (36), Ada eighth (34) and USV in 10th (30). Hardin Northern ended up 16th with 11 points.
Any top four finish qualifies an athlete or relay for the regional meet in Tiffin May 29 and 31.
Bulldog senior speedster Russell Gray won the 100 meter district crown (11.27) after coming in second in the preliminary heats (11.18).
The Ada boys 4 x 200 relay foursome of Gray, Matt Wilcox, Kellen Decker and Micah Roberson also captured first in a school-record time of 1:31.36. They won the prelims as well in 1:34.84.
Ada senior Micah Roberson qualified for regionals at Tiffin by finishing second in the long jump (20-11).
The Bulldog 4 x 400 relay team of Spencer Archer, Jon Robey, Mitchell Wilcox and Matthew Wilcox finished second behind only the foursome from Allen East in a time of 3:29.46.
The all-senior Ada 4 x 100 relay quartet of Gray, Decker, Levi Klingler and Roberson finished second in 44.88, losing out by a mere .02 to Waynesfield.
Ada junior Austin Dumbaugh made it to Tiffin with a personal-best throw of 157-0 to finish third in the discus. Senior Brent Numbers came in eighth in the discus (142-9).
Roberson also finished third in the 200 meters (23.11) and Gray came in fourth in the 200 (23.34).
Sophomore Mitchell Wilcox came in second in the 800 meters (2:02.97). His junior brother Matthew Wilcox took second in the 400 (52.68).
Bulldog junior distance ace Tristan Armbrecht ended up a solid third in the 1600 (4:54.75) and also took sixth in the 3200 (11:30.98).
Klingler finished third in the 110 high hurdles (16.43). Senior Klingler took seventh in the 300 hurdles (45.79) despite injured hamstrings.
The Bulldog boys 4 x 800 relay team of Mitchell Wilcox, Armbrecht, Dylan Hannah and Jon Robey took fourth in 9:06.31.
Ada junior speed demon Brittney Archer took second in the 200 meters (26.43) after posting the top preliminary time. Archer finished third in the 100 meters (12.87) to pace the Bulldog girls.
Senior Morgan Rouch took second in the 800 meters (2:24.19) to qualify for regionals a third time.
The Lady Bulldog 4 x 800 relay team of Terra Hunter, Gabby Linnon, Lindsay Walden and Rouch finished third in 10:31.72.
Powerful senior Katelyn Simon and lanky sophomore Walden each narrowly missed making it in the high jump. Simon finished in a three-way tie for fifth (4-10) while Walden came in eighth with more misses at 4-10.
The Ada girls 4 x 100 relay team of freshman Morgan Sutton, senior Taylor Willeke, Simon and Archer finished seventh in 54.01.
