RAWSON — Ada senior Chase Sumner went 5-0 and the Bulldog wrestling team posted a 2-3 dual match record at the season-opening, six-team Cory-Rawson Duals Saturday.

Two-time all-stater Sumner recorded four pins and won a forfeit to compose a perfect record at 145 pounds.

Bulldog teammates Colton Beiderman (106 lbs.) and Adam Bailey (285 lbs.) each posted 4-1 records on the day for the purple and gold.




Columbus Grove's 33-32 win over host Cory-Rawson made the difference in the team standings as CG barely captured first place. Grove and Cory each finished 4-1 in the round-robin competition, but CG earned first place based on its narrow win over the Hornets.

The Findlay junior varsity squad came in third with a 3-2 record. Ada and Liberty-Benton each finished 2-3, while Lima Senior was last with an 0-5 record.

Columbus Grove beat Ada 39-36 and fell to Findlay for its only loss, 40-18.

Cory-Rawson defeated Ada 45-30 while Ada defeated the Findlay JV, 36-33. Ada also whipped Lima Senior 54-18 in the opening round.
Liberty-Benton topped Ada 46-24 for one of its two wins.

Lima Senior?s Naheem Russell, who went 5-0 with five pins at 160 pounds, was named the tournament?s Most Valuable Wrestler. Sumner won the award last year.

Ada competes in the Lincolnview Invitational Saturday, December 9 at 9 a.m.
