ADA - Visiting Arlington posted a 10-run fourth inning and went on to defeat Ada 15-2 Friday evening in a non-league softball contest.
The Lady Bulldogs fell to 3-8 overall with their fifth straight loss while the Lady Red Devils improved to 10-3 following the victory.
"We have hit a tough stretch in our schedule," said Ada head coach Ken Jochims. "We are just going to have to play better defensively and score more runs. Arlington has a nice team offensively."
Arlington tallied four runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed.
Leading off the Lady Bulldog half of the first inning, junior catcher Ashley Windle smacked a home run that bounced off the top of the fence and over the wall. But that was the biggest highlight of the game offensively for Ada.
Both teams plated a single run in the third inning.
"Ashley Sumner threw strikes and made them put the ball in play," said Jochims of his freshman starting pitcher. "We have to come up with those balls on defense."
Ada committed five errors and was out-hit 13 to four, including five extra-base hits.
Bulldog Madison Pinks added a single up the middle in the bottom of the fourth frame with one out, but was stranded at second base. Ada freshman Quinn High retired the Red Devils in order in relief in the fifth.
The Bulldogs went out in order in the bottom of the fifth to end it due to the 10-run rule after five frames.
Megan Johnson smacked a two-run homer for the visitors. Teammate Shiloh Thompson doubled, singled three times and drove in four runs. Kathryn Jolliff contributed a double, single and a run batted in for the Lady Devils.
Winning pitcher Erica O'Rear aided her own cause with an RBI double. Courtney Stoltz added a pair of singles and Britnee Johnson slammed a two-bagger.
Katelyn Guagenti doubled and Windle singled to provide the other Ada hits.
"As bad as the score looked, we could have been in the game if we had done a few things differently," offered Jochims. "Megan Simon had a real good game and played well in left field."
