ADA - Visiting Arlington jumped to a big lead and defeated Ada 15-4 in a
non-league baseball contest Friday evening at War Memorial Park.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 2-7.
Ben Neville paced Ada at the plate with an RBI single and scored a run in
the bottom of the fifth. The Bulldogs plated four runs in the home half of
the fifth but came up short to have the game shortened by the 10-run rule.
Seth Ramirez earned the pitching win for Arlington. He hurled four shutout
innings and struck out eight, while walking none and surrendering three
Steve Hatton, P.J. Hatton, Ramirez and Jordan Freed led the Red Devil
offense by combining for eight hits and eight RBIs.
The Red Devils never trailed after scoring four runs in the first inning
on a two-run double by Ramirez, an error, and a passed ball.
Arlington matched its three-run second inning with three more in the fifth.
In the second, Arlington scored on a three-run home run by Freed, scoring
John Solt and Steve Hatton. The Devils also plated five runs in the fourth.
Ada pushed across four runs in the bottom of the fifth to avoid a shutout.
Blake Willeke started the rally when he was hit by a pitch with one out.
Willeke stole second and came in to score on an RBI single to left field
by Cort Everhart. Brayden Sautter pulled a sharp grounder to first base
for the second out.
Alex Nichelson singled to left to put runners on first and third base.
Neville slammed a solid single to left to score Everhart.
After a wild pitch, Lane Nitchie dumped a two-run flyball single in front
of the left fielder to plate both runners.
But Arlington reliever Mason Werst induced a Brenden Szippl strike out to
close the outing.
The Red Devils out-hit Ada 12-7.
