ADA - Lincolnview came to Ada Thursday and tried to avenge a five-game 2011 sectional final loss, but the Lady Bulldogs sent them back home frustrated with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 Northwest Conference defeat.

The win snapped a four-match league losing streak to up the Ada record to 10-8 overall and 2-4 in the NWC, while Lincolnview fell to 4-10 and 1-5 in the NWC.

"The whole team is coming together nicely," said first-year Ada head coach Andrew Woodward. "We have gotten a lot of close game experience at the end of matches that is helping us."

The Bulldogs looked ready to cruise to a third set win after Alexis Rhodes made consecutive tips late in the set, but the second one was disallowed when the referee ruled she reached over the plane of the net.

Buoyed by the call, the visitors reeled off four straight points to tie it 21-21. However, the Lancers hit wide on their ensuing chance to take the lead. Lancer senior Mandie Tennant knocked down a kill to knot it again at 22-all, but Ada senior Taylor Willeke smashed a left outside hit down the left sideline for a clean kill and a 23-22 edge.

The teams traded errors to match point, when sophomore Tori Wyss hammered a kill that dropped into the open short spot off a Lancer block to clinch the victory.

Woodward briefly argued the call that could have altered the outcome and momentum late in game three, but was impressed with his team's response. "I didn't agree with the call but we took care of it; I am proud of the girls for playing through that," he said.

In game one, Ada pulled away late to grab a 24-19 lead after freshman Megan Simon served an ace that fell to the hardwood off the top of the net. Following a Bulldog error, Wyss knocked down a winning kill off a Lancer block that was a harbinger of swings to come for a 25-19 win.

The Bulldogs pulled ahead 9-5 in game two after three Rhodes kills and a Willeke smash that dropped in off two blockers. A Lindsay Walden kill and a cross-court slam by Willeke put the hosts in front 11-5.

But after a timeout, Lincolnview rallied with a 6-0 spurt to tie it. Three errors by Ada later the Lancers grabbed their first lead at 14-12. A Walden kill and a pair of Lancer miscues tied it again 15-all.

Lancer Jodie Doner and Rhodes traded kills, and then so did Lauren Calvert and Wyss. A Rhodes kill put Ada in front for good, 18-17. Wyss fired a pair of service winners to extend the lead to 20-17. A Lincolnview error and a serve return misplay gave Ada more breathing room at 22-17 as Wyss served five straight key points.

Lincolnview junior ace hitter Ashley McClure stopped the 10-3 Bulldog run with a pair of big kills, but Willeke responded with a winning attack and a good tip for a 24-19 cushion.

Walden put the finishing touches on the win with a big smash that caromed well out of bounds off an unsuccessful Lancer block to provide Ada its second straight 25-19 win.

Willeke topped a balanced Ada attack with 10 digs. Rhodes continued her fine play by contributing seven kills and four blocks. Walden knocked down five kills while Wyss added four kills and three aces.

Simon came up with a dozen digs and Hannah Price made 10 digs. Senior setter Morgan Rouch dished out 25 assists and came up two blocks.

Ada hosts local arch-rival USV Oct. 1 in their third straight non-league Hardin County home match on a Monday. The Bulldogs beat Hardin Northern Sept. 17 and defeated Kenton Sept. 24.
