TROY - Ada junior Austin Windle won four matches in the consolation bracket of the 160 lb. division to finish third at the Div. III district wrestling tournament Saturday in Troy's Hobart Arena.
The strong performance on the second day of competition qualified Windle for the Div. III state meet at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus February 27-March 1.
Windle first decisioned Tytus Collins of Waynesville 15-8 Saturday morning to advance to the consolation third round.
Once there, he pinned Jacob Dingus of Wayne Trace at 2:57.
Windle then defeated semifinal winner's bracket loser Jake Schmidt of Coldwater in a 9-2 decision to win the consolation semis.
Then in the third place or consolation final match, Windle beat Deer Park's Kamran Alexander in a tight 9-8 decision.
The top four finishers in a weight class make it to the state meet in Columbus. Windle (40-5) is the first Ada wrestler in the short history of the program to make it to this plateau.
