DOLA - Ada scored all of its runs in a big third inning, then held off a late rally from Hardin Northern to win their traditional non-league county rivalry baseball opener Monday at Dola, 8-7.
The win gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 start, while HN fell to 0-1.
Senior infielder Slade Downing led Ada with a triple, three hits and three runs batted in.
Bulldog freshman Seth Evans earned the pitching win in his debut, while southpaw Connor English came in to earn the save.
HN scored single runs in the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. But Ada pushed across eight runs in the top of the third frame.
Northern closed within 8-6 with three runs in the sixth, then added one more in the bottom of the seventh to come up just short.
"This was a very exciting way to start off the season!" said Ada third-year coach Jason Campbell. "I am glad to see that we could handle the adversity."
Ada out-hit HN 10-8 and committed four errors to two by the Polar Bears.
