Ada girls get bye, home game in sectional draw

KENTON - The Ada varsity softball team received a first round bye and a chance for revenge in the Div. IV super sectional drawing held Sunday at Kenton.
The Lady Bulldogs (11-5) will host county foe Hardin Northern Thursday, May 15 in the district quarterfinals. The Lady Polar Bears, who also got a bye, eliminated Ada last spring in a close pitcher's duel.
The HN at Ada winner will likely face top-seeded New Riegel in the district semis at Kenton on Tuesday, May 20.
The district final between the upper and lower bracket winners will then be held at Kenton Friday, May 23.
A change to the sectional/district set-up was adopted by the Ohio High School Athletic Association this spring. The new format allows higher-seeded teams to host first (sectional semifinals) and second-round (sectional final) games.
District and regional tournaments will still be held at sites pre-determined by the OHSAA.
The tournament seeding process changed in an effort to seed teams on more of a district basis than on a sectional basis.
The goal of the changes is to give teams that have earned higher seeds a better chance to advance deeper in tournament play instead of meeting head-to-head in areas that have had strong sectional fields.
Ada beat Hardin Northern 5-2 at Dola in their season opener back on March 31. HN has gone on to fashion a 6-1 record in Blanchard Valley Conference play.
New Riegel made it to the regionals last season. HN also advanced to the district final in 2013 after knocking off Ada at USV.
