COLUMBUS GROVE - In their seasonal battle of the Bulldogs, visiting Ada dropped a 12-1 decision to Columbus Grove in a Northwest Conference baseball contest Thursday evening.

Ada dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the NWC with the loss while Grove improved to 9-1 and 3-0 in league play.

Ada was led by the offense of senior outfielder Gabe Sutton. Sutton batted 1-2 and scored the lone Ada run by stealing home after singling in the first inning.

The lead was short-lived however as Grove scored four runs in the home half of the first, paced by a two-run double from Kody Griffith and a two-run single by Joshua Verhoff.

Grove piled on five more runs in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to 9-1. A tally in the third and two more in the fourth frame made it a run rule-shortened outing.

Elisha Jones got the pitching win for Columbus Grove. He allowed one run over five innings. He struck out six, walked none and surrendered three hits.

Matt Jay, Brady Shafer, Griffith and Vernhoff led the Grove offense, as they combined for four hits and eight runs batted in.
