GALION - LaVelva E. Chandler, 96, of Galion, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at Magnolia Terrace, in Galion.
Born March 31, 1916, in St. Paris, she was the daughter of the late Hobart and Marie (Harter) Niece. She was preceded in death on May 10, 1983, by her husband, Robert J. Chandler whom she married on July 20, 1935.
LaVelva was a graduate of Lakeview High School, in Lakeview, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ada. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Trinity Chapter #16 in Ada and belonged to the Galion Country Club and Tally Ho Club in Ada. She was an honorary member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority in Ada.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sharon Chandler, of Galion, and Dennis and Judy Chandler, of Cornelius, N.C.; five grandchildren, David (Lynne) Chandler, Paige (Lisa) Chandler, Eric (Kim) Chandler, Amy (Scott) Archer and Rob Chandler; three step-grandchildren, Carrie (Charles) Smith, Jessica (Josh) Corwin, and Ben Ross; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lewis Niece of Tucson, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Garry Niece.
Services were held at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home, in Galion, at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 22, with Rev. Mike Corwin officiating. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 22, at Preston Cemetery, Alger.
