ADA - Karen J. Staley, 71, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at 4:33 a.m., at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima. She was born on July 24, 1942, in Hardin County, to Ora and Gertrude (Carmean) Newland who preceded her in death. She wed Eldon J. Staley on March 31, 1962, and they were happily married for 51 years and he survives in Ada.

Karen retired from Gardner Drug Store, in Ada, after working 25 years. She was a 1960 graduate of McGuffey High School and a graduate of the Ohio State Beauty Academy. Karen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she will be deeply missed by her family.

Surviving are her children, Steve (Kelly) Staley, of Columbus, Kim (Mark) Deffenbaugh, of Massillon, and Marc (Linda) Staley, of Ada; eight grandchildren, Alan Staley, Benjamin Staley, Lauren Deffenbaugh, Matthew Deffenbaugh, Madi Staley, Eric Deffenbaugh, Ryan Staley and Andrew Deffenbaugh; two brothers Ora "Bus" (Phyllis) Newland, Jr., of Mt. Victory, and Leonard (Paula) Newland, of Shawnee; and a sister, Dorothy Brehm, of Raymond. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin Newland, Raymond Newland and William Newland; a sister, Helen Ellis; and two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Ellis and Fred Brehm.

A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Gerbert Darlington. Burial will be held at a later date in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada. Friends may call 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Community Health Professionals of Ada - Hospice.
