KENTON - John Butcher, 84, passed away at 5:02 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima. He was born on June 23, 1928, in Van Lear, Ky., to Willie and Amanda (Blanton) Butcher. On Nov. 16, 1963, he married Lewana Jean Williams who survives.
John worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart and was retired from the Kenton Times. He was a member of the 37th Division, 148th Infantry of the Ohio National Guard and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors also include one sone, Thomas M. (Heidi) Butcher, of Findlay; one daughter, Patricia "Patty" L. (Gary) Cribley, of Ada; four grandchildren, Amanda K. (Jamie) Raines, Emily J. Cribley, Stephanie L. Cribley, and Joseph Miller; and two sisters, Elsie Horne, and Phyllis (Charles) Byers, both of Kenton. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Geneva Shaffer, Elizabeth Sharp, Opal Columber, and Ivory McQuown; and one brother, Ervin Curtis Butcher.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at Schindewolf Stevens Stout Funeral Home, Kenton with Pastor Jonathan Hanover officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Kenton. Military Graveside Services will be conducted by the AMVETS Post #1994 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the funeral home.
