ADA — Betty Kathryn Wirt, 87, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at
9:05 p.m., at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born on
April 2, 1926, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to William and Elizabeth (Hasson)
Knox and they preceded her in death. On May 15, 1946, she married Merle
E. Wirt and he died on Nov. 1, 2010.
Betty was the owner and
operator of the Cubby Hole in Ada. She was a very active member of the
First United Methodist Church, of Ada, and a member of the United
Methodist Women and Leah Circle of the church. Betty was a 50 year
member of the P.E.O. Chapter O. She loved spending her summers with
family and friends at her cottage in Grand Bend, Ontario.
The family would like to thank the staffs of the Ada Visiting Nurses and the Mennonite Memorial Home.
Surviving is a son, Rev. David (Jennifer) Wirt of Stratford, Ontario,
Canada; a daughter, Deborah Peacock of Tacoma, Wash.; three
grandchildren, Shawn Wirt, Ryan (Darcie) Peacock and Jared Peacock;
three stepgrandchildren, Andrew Famme, Megan Famme and Kaitlyn Famme;
three great-grandchildren, Molly Peacock, Kipton Peacock and Bryson
Peacock; a brother, John (Deborah) Kogler, of Bethel Park, Pa.; and
several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 29,
2014, at the English Chapel on the Campus of Ohio Northern University,
Ada, with Pastor Mary Jo Yeakel officiating. Interment of ashes will be
in Desenberg Cemetery, LaFayette.
Friends may call 2 to 6 p.m., on Friday, March 28, at Hanson-Neely
Funeral Home, Ada, with a P.E.O. Memorial Service beginning at 6 p.m. at
the funeral home. Friends may call one hour prior to the memorial
service at the English Chapel on Saturday.
