ADA — Barbara E. Tighe, 94, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at 3:30 a.m., at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born on June 15, 1919, in Hardin County, to Elza and Sara (Wingate) Elwood who preceded her in death. On Aug. 29, 1942, she married Andrew “Andy” Tighe and he died on Aug. 10, 1997.

Barbara was a registered nurse and retired as a private duty nurse and administrator for Avanell Stambaugh. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, of Ada. She graduated from Ada High School and was a 1940 graduate of the Lima Memorial School of Nursing.

She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She loved attending the Freed Center and she enjoyed playing golf, fishing and traveling.

Surviving are a sister, Linda Sue Webster, of Sandusky; two sisters-in-law, Eloise Tighe, of Ada, and Joan Elwood; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Tighe; a daughter, Beth Jane Tighe; and a brother, Clair Elwood.

A mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 300 E. Highland Ave., Ada, with Father David Young officiating. It was her request to have no visitation and a private family burial.
