Being filmed by ONU broadcasting student, Garrett Bugay, was a special treat for Ada first grader Jackson Brown as he made a donation to the Ada Food Pantry. Brown made the donation from the profits he received from the sale of his "Support Local, Support Ada" 2013 calendar. (Photo submitted)
ADA - First grade student, Jackson Brown, creator of the 2013 "Support Local, Support Ada!" calendar, recently presented a check for $250 to Beth Gray and Tom Gossel, leaders of the Ada Food Pantry. Brown produced the calendar with the goal of earning some extra money for himself while donating 25 percent of his profits to the food pantry. He was surprised to find a camera crew onsite to film the issuing of his check, thanks to Garrett Bugay, senior Broadcasting major at Ohio Northern University.
Brown is already brainstorming his next venture.
"He learned a great deal throughout the process, especially about sales, marketing and his new favorite term 'accounts receivables'," commented his father Matt Brown. "But one of the highlights for me was Jackson's comment after we left the food pantry, he turned to me and said, 'Dad, I gave them (referring to Tom Gossel and Beth Gray) a firm handshake, that's important.' I'm proud of him and will continue to support his goals and dreams as an entrepreneur."
