KENTON - The bar owner charged with serving a 21-year-old at least 24 shots of alcohol has been sentenced in Hardin County Municipal Court.Richard Cribley, 61, pleaded no contest in Hardin County Municipal Court on charges of furnishing intoxicating liquor to an intoxicated person at Cribley Inc., also known as the Regal Beagle Bar, 103-107 N. Main Street in Ada. Cribley received five days in jail with all of those days suspended, a $225 fine and six months of unsupervised probation.
"We hope that this case has opened the eyes to bar owners and their employees of the dangers of over-serving their patrons," said Agent-in-Charge Raymond Rodriguez of the Ohio Investigative Unit Toledo District. "We are fortunate this young man was not more seriously injured."
In September, OIU agents began a month-long investigation after being contacted by the Ada Police Department about a young man who was admitted into intensive care with alcohol poisoning.
In December, bartender Joseph L. Jarvi, 33, was sentenced to five days in jail with four days suspended, a $200 fine, 16 hours of community service and six months of probation.
With the criminal proceedings completed, the case will now be presented to the Ohio Liquor Control Commission for administrative citations against the liquor permit. Penalties from the Liquor Control Commission may include issuing a fine, or suspending or revoking a liquor license.
