ADA - The Ada Police Department will present the 2013 Citizen's Police Academy beginning Sept. 5 and will run for four weeks from 7 to 9 p.m. each Thursday. Classes will begin at the Ada Depot with several field trips planned. At the conclusion of the academy classes, participants will be given the opportunity to earn their Concealed Carry Permit at a reduced cost with dates to be announced. The Concealed Carry classes are optional for class participants and are presented separately from the Citizen's Police Academy.

The Citizen's Police Academy will focus on many aspects of policing and give students a broad perspective of the law enforcement profession. Some of the topics that will be covered include Community Policing, Laws of Arrests, Police Communications, Firearms, Drug Task Force Operations, Special Response Team Operations, Court Procedures and Patrol Tactics. It is the goal of the Ada Police Department to provide this insight and equip our residents and participants to be better prepared to assist local law enforcement as they work to keep Ada a safer community.

The cost of the Citizen's Police Academy is $20.00 which includes a Citizen's Police Academy polo shirt. The cost of the Concealed Carry class is $50, a reduced rate available to academy students only. All applicants will be required to fill out an application before admittance and must pass a background check meeting all qualifications for the Concealed Carry Permit. Applications for the Citizen's Police Academy may be picked up at the Ada Police Department. Deadline for applications is Monday, Sept. 2.
